studying after 1 year postgrad at RNCM
on: July 19, 2008, 01:52:26 PM
Hi, I'm attending the RNCM for a year for a postgraduate diploma in performance (1 year). I am already thinking about what to do when I leave. It's kind of awkward though, as I am 28, and I will be 29 when I leave, and I've never been to a conservatoire before (Bath Spa University), so I feel I've missed out. But I am trying to plan ahead. I have two options. Study for an extra year (until I'm 30!), or set out on a career at 29, whilst studying privately with the best teacher I can possibly find! I am very tempted to go for the latter, as I believe that 1 year at a conservatoire isn't enough, but I would want to go somewhere else, as although I was thrilled at the RNCM acceptance, I wanted to go to the RCM, or RAM but failed the auditions. The best teaching at the best place is what I'm after! As for the latter choice, I have no idea about private studying. My teacher mentioned that I could study with Alessio Bax (winner of the Leeds piano competition), when I mentioned that I like him as a pianist, but that's the only idea I have. Have you got any advice? It would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Russ.
