How difficult is Fauré ?
on: July 25, 2008, 08:25:46 AM
hello

with the difficulty ranking of this site from 1 to 8+ how hard would you say thesse pieces of Fauré are ?
-Prélude 1
-             2
-3
-4
-5
-6
-7
-8
-9

His nocturne 12 & 13, his Ballade op.19
and his 2nd bacarolle op.41 ?

Fauré has a very unique style of playing and i'm wondering if maybe the interpretation won't be the most diffficult compared to the technique and his quite odd hand positioning.

Only know four of the preludes:

No.  2 is really a little etude, triplets divided betwen the two hands.  Not all that hard.  I'd give it a "6."

No. 3 is easy.  Pretty tune, harmonically interesting.  I'd give it a "4."

No. 6 is a canon, not hard, a legato study.  I'd give it a "5."

No. 8 repeated note staccato, legato counterpoint. I'd give it a "6."

The only Nocturne I know is No. 13.  It's "late" Faure, not easy to pull off, but a great piece.  It's an "8+."

Don't know the Barcarolle, Op. 41 or the Ballade.  Sorry.
