Will there be another Bernhard?
on: August 04, 2008, 01:50:15 PM
He's not the only like that out there.  You get a veteran private teacher or a college prof and that's it.

So when would one come here?  Or are they already here but not posting?

It would be someone with that experience and someone who wants to post freely, who has the time to post freely too.

I wonder what it would take.  Maybe a free Gold membership?  I dbout that though.  They probably have their own music.  Maybe an altruistic attitude?  And just knowing about this site.  But it is being advertised.  Maybe advertising for the forum though and not just sheet music.

I just wonder.  Because there are lots of Bernhards out there.

He was more focused on helping people and practical, applicable advice.  There are other people who post, but not so much in that applied way.

Like attracts like too.  I suppose losing Bernhard may have lost others.

And those veteran people wouldn't necessarily care about getting ideas from others.  And probably aren't concerned about sharing their ideas either.

And if they're older, they may not be into the internet.

I doubt there are a lot of of bernhards out there. That guy must have had a lot of time in his hands then... Teachers generally do not have much time for themselves, unless they're terrible and no one wants to be their student.  ;) An altruistic attitude is a must, too.

Now that I think about it, CC isn't here anymore either. Neither a teacher nor a pro, but a source of ideas nonetheless.

Marik lends his advice pretty freeley and its always good, not to mention he has qualifications that any on this forum would be hard pressed to match.

Ah, yes. But marik is no bernhard...

And now I'm wondering if there will be another marik.  ???

I just wonder.  Because there are lots of Bernhards out there.

i think bernhard is unique. i have studied with conservatory teachers and concert pianists but no one is like our bernhard. his altruism, his wealth of knowledge ( not just in piano ), his commitment to spend time for pianostreeters, his void of vanity, and above all his highly systemized pedagogical method. all these fine elements are found in one human being-and that's in our bernhard. he is surely one of a kind. true, there are many well known teachers, and world never seem to encounter any shortage of high class concert pianists, but the truth is that there is only one bernhard. and he is irreplacable. tds

marik = marik
bernhard = bernhard

If it were the other way around, and marik left while bernhard stayed, the title of this thread would be "Will there be another marik?" They are both unique and imprortant members of this forum. They would be misssed.

PS. I would sure miss Thal if he left, too.  :D

Nope, there will never be another Bernhard, just like there will never be another one of any of us.  I agree that what Bernhard has shared here, both directly and indirectly, are superb !!  However, Bernhard doesn't own the wonderful qualities that he expresses, though he does express them in his own unique Bernhard way :).  I just wonder though, with all of this talk about Bernhard and so on, how many people have truly studied his posts, worked with his ideas and put them into practice ?  All of this talk about how valuable he is (which, I do not argue against in and of itself), but what have people done with what he has offered ?  What makes him and/or his ideas so valuable to you ?  In some respect, it just doesn't matter how generous or smart or knowlegable any of us are if what we offer isn't worked with and learned from.  It will matter to Bernhard how he lives his life, of course, but what he offers here will only matter to any of us as much as it is used and learned from by us.  And, Bernhard is not "ours"  -- he isn't "our" property -- he is his.

I have seen a lot of people celebrating him on here, and that's fine.  He should be celebrated, sure.  But, what are you celebrating, exactly ?  I would love to see more posts remarking on how people's own use of what he has offered here has helped them, or questions that they have, or how they have otherwise learned from the experience of digging into his ideas ...

The truth is, bernhard is such a mine of ideas that it would take years and years to put them into practice. I visit this forum often, and I still haven't read all relevant bernhard posts (I understand some are just links, and some links are broken...  :(). I am learning more from bernhard every time I read a post, even if it's the same one, and I still don't understand much. I'm sure the people who do, they're probably too busy enjoying piano playing to post here.
