on: August 11, 2008, 06:16:55 PM
hi Guys and gals i am currently studying Shostakovich Prelude No. 1 and i have arrived at the accending pattern in bars 31 and 32 but my book doesn't suggest any fingering

so i was kind of hoping that someone could help me out here with the fingering because it's rather an unnusual pattern and i am unsure of how to excecute it effectivly and smoothly

any help will be much appreciated thanks

I do not have the sheet music of this piece, but if you give me the notes or give me a digital version, i can try to work it out. I've experienced that finding a suitable fingering for certain sections is actually 50% of having the actual technique.

Depending offcourse on what is previous to that section and after it, independantly i'd automatically finger it as:

Eb  F  Ab  C  D  Eb F  Gb  Bb  Eb  F  F#
5    4  3    2  1  3   1  4    3    2    1  2

Usually i'm looking in this kind of runs for what note you want your thumb on to have your hand change position, but í havent done this a lot yet either and i dont have a teacher so i'm not sure if this would be correct or suitable. I find that when i compare my own fingering with fingering from the sheets, i usually use my thumb a bit too much. So maybe someone else can also give some advice.
