Barlow's Cogluotobusisletmesi  can hardly be considered "pretty" in my opinion.. There are pieces which seem to float in beauty, although complexity runs all around it. I really like Sorabji's Le Jardin Parfume, if that is too hard his In the Hothouse is similar in style much easier, and shorter, also finishes with a quite exciting very rhythmic Toccata (which is extremely difficult to play clearly).

How about Wilhelm von Wankerstein's melodious fantasia on contrapuntal elements from the Northampton Trappist monks' Codex of Carmina from the lost Caverns of Ubersanctorumsanctissimus Vulvasanctissimus Blowissiums Outermananalisimus Douchebagimus Magnificatissumus?

These works are dense and eminently melodious.  Pretty?  Well, that depends, of course, on one's definition of "pretty."

I was thinking more along the lines of Adolfus van Shittenpotens metamorphosis on Archduke Ferdinands dissected left testicle preserved in an inverted cathedral bell filled with alcohol.

Anyway, composers like Barlow have to use silly long names, as it is the only way in which this shite gets noticed.

It really is impossible to have a serious discussion about modern music on this forum.
That's what SHE said.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)
