Chaplin

I don't know if this has been sometime discussed here, but why aren't Chaplin's movies so celebrated and admired has many things that have no value at all are? I mean, what could be more fascinating than one of the tramp movies? Or even Chaplin's first movie, Making A Living, that is truly remarkable! His movies should be in our education and culture and in the very interior of our brain like beethoven and chopin, it would be a marvellous society...
I like very very much "Modern Times", The Gold Rush", other small movies like "Cruel Cruel Love" and, above all, his final speech in "The Great Dictator"...

PS: Can someone tell me if Chaplin played the piano? I know he played violin and he has some interesting pieces like "Smile" and "Eternally", but I heard that he actually couldn't read or write any music....)

Most people can´t tell the difference beetwen Beethoven and Chopins music, but they know who Charlie Chaplin is.

You're right about that Petter, but most people don't even hear Beethoven and Chopin, as they should, and they don't even see any of Chaplin's movies, and that's what I want to discuss: why do people run way from the precise things that can change the world...

I watched a good bit of Chaplin in "The Great Dictator" and I think I can
say that it's a masterpiece.  It is one of the funniest things I have
ever seen.

I would say it is because people resist change, and change requires growth.

They showed us a Chaplin video in school, I think it was about working in a factory, and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.

I love silent films, but have never really warmed to Chaplin as he simply does not make me laugh. In fact, whenever i watch one of his flicks, i just wish someone would punch his lights out.

I can hoot with laughter at Laurel & Hardy, Harold Lloyd and even Fatty Arbuckle, but Chaplin leaves me straight faced.

Chaplin...wasn't that the guy with really long trousers and had an affair with his daughter?

Or is that someone else I've got him confused with? LOL
