Democratic Veepstakes
on: August 20, 2008, 04:32:33 AM
Who will it be? I think he'll pick Evan Bayh, a young "new" Democrat like Obama. His selection could put heavily Republican Indiana in the Democratic electoral vote collum.

Or perhaps Joe Biden, the respected elder statesman and foreign policy wonk. I doubt that he will select Gore or Clinton, who would summon the ghosts of elections past and mobilize the somnolent Republicans to real action. Your thoughts?

I have no idea who he will pick. But I really HOPE he dose not pick Hillary or Al Gore, I think if he picks either then that will doom his chances of winning the election. Secretley, I would like to see Liebermann on his ticket even though the obvious differences make that impossible. I think that you are right that he will pick a 'new' democrat, but who that will be I do not know.

Or you mean... Who will the next Vice-President be?  McCain doesn't look so great in the media.

How about that John Edwards?  Looks clean cut.  Solid sounding name.

Certainly a guy like that wouldn't lie to us, would he? :)

Is anyone else inclined to seek new presidential candidates?!?!

Any other lingering Ron Paul fans out there?

Doesn't really matter who his VP nom is. He isn't going to win the presidency, and if he does, I'm moving to Canada!

Why not? Bayh could bring him Indiana (11 electoral votes, a red state) and Kaine could bring him Virginia ( 13 electoral votes, also a red state). Biden brings him the support of the older Democrats, who were mostly supporting Clinton, and through him he doesn't have to pay more than lip service to her. But who else but Obama are those older Democrats going to vote for anyways? I don't see how Biden's nomination brings Obama any electoral or popular vote advantage. But clearly this choice of VP nom will affect him, one way or another.

What makes you so sure?

Heh, Barbara Streisand and some other Hollywood liberals said they would do that if Bush was reelected in 2004. Unfortunately, so far they have not fulfilled their promise to flee. I expect that you will still be in the USA a year from today.  ;) But what would be so awful about an Obama administration that makes you consider exile?

I'm curious...  ???

For sure in my opinion. I could be wrong, though...

More likely that McCain would take Liebermann for a running mate.

This isn't an Obama bashing thread, so I won't say why I wouldn't want him as president. And besides, my hands are tired of typing today. But I'll leave you all with this before I head off to bed: do we really want to leave our country to someone with no experience, yet he acts like he has so much? He's already played the "imagine you're president" game enough by traveling to other countries on his so-called missions. Oh and for the record, I don't like McCain either.

Country first sir, Country first! When things get bad it is not the time to give up and run away, but the time to work for change, we would be a sorry country indeed if we quit everytime things did not go our way.

Sounds like someone has been watching too many Obama speeches.

Well it could be!  :D

I don't think he's that inexperienced; seven years in the Illinois State Senate representing large parts of Chicago isn't nothing. Chicago isn't some hick town and Illinois is not a provincial backwater. Obama was a very active legislator, look up his record. True he hasn't worked at the Federal level for long but I don't see why that's significant. He is clearly an intelligent and thoughtful person, whether you agree with him or not. We could do a lot worse. As for his missions, there is a bit of showbiz to them, and to the man. He's a politician...  ;)

Yes, indeed; I myself am inclined to ask my country what it can do for me, before I do something for it.  :)
