rhythm on different instruments
on: August 26, 2008, 01:37:27 AM
i noticed for me that rhythm on the piano comes real natural but when i try any other instruments i just can't feel the rhythm at all. i played guitar for many years before i tried piano and still can't feel the rhythm like i do when playing piano. When i play the guitar i HAVE TO tap my foot to keep the beat but when i play the piano it just comes to me. same thing goes for singing, i can't sing without tapping my foot or i will loose the beat. i'm just curious what this is all about, if anyone has the same problem as why rhythm would feel different on one instrument than another. it almosr feels like the rhythm comes from a different place in the body and i would like to be able to feel it better on other instruments.

Interesting take.
Do you have any independent way of checking whether your rhythm really is better on one instrument than another?
Because my perception is that in general, pianists are worse at keeping steady time than any other instrumentalist except possibly for organists.

That's weird. I had assumed that my better rhythm on the guitar was due to the fact that it was my first instrument. Also, guitar is tied to the more rhythm-based pop music.
Sorry I can't help you with this. I have a problem with rhythm, too. On the PIANO. Makes me think either I didn't have good inner rhythm in the first place, or I have trouble controlling two hands doing different things.
