If the immortals had written music for all eternity, we would not have remembered their music.

Pianist is different from composer. And the choices are too limited.

Bach is out of the question. He hated piano, preferred harpsichord.
Chopin is a great composer and teacher, but rarely performed in a concert.
I don't like Mozart's compositions, but the number of pieces he wrote in a short life span is overwhelming.
I don't like Liszt's compositions, but he's good at transcribing for and playing the piano.

This is not true. He tested one of the Silbermann pianofortes and suggested how these instruments could be improved (being a very estimated expert at keyboard instruments, especially organs, in his time) That has nothing to do with hating these instruments.

Mozart for me at the moment.

I'm sure this will change again.

My mistake. Hate is such a strong word.

I've tried electric guitars. I can tell up to some extent which are good. Why, I even own one. That doesn't necessarily mean that I am an electric guitarist. Or that I like those things. Just curious, I guess.

Mozart
Beethoven
Chopin
Liszt
Scriabin
Rachmaninoff
Medtner

I second Rach and Scriabin
Schumann couple (yeah two heads are better than one sometimes)
Brahms
Mendelssohn?

I voted Beethoven but this is a bizzare poll as good composers are not always good pianists and vice versa

E.G Berlioz great composer - bad pianist
Liszt great pianist - weaker composer

Also where the likes of Brahms, Shostakovich and Mahler (yes he was a good pianist)

No one for Sorabji? This isn't my nomination, but no one has selected him?

I think my nomination would have to be Medtner.
