We shouldent even be having this debate! We shouldent drill in a wasteland! What wee need to do and do right now is invest completely in alternative and clean fuels. We need to have a WWII mobilaztion. We cannot continue at this rate and not expect seriouse consequences in the future.

Here is an instance that not many people realize is a problem but is directly related to our greed of cheap energy.

try driving a smaller car on the freeway.  it will work - and you are right - efficiency.  but what about car accidents?  who is going to win.  the honda fiat or a large lincoln mercury that spews pollution at 100%.

we need an immediate change to small golf carts everywhere.

ps i am not arguing with your general idea.  besides, alaska is almost out - but there are 'reserves.'  the whole thing comes down to ingeniuity and creativity.  i think i read about some new car that has just come out and has 41 miles to the gallon.  have to remember where i saw it - maybe reader's digest.  anyways - it isn't in production fully yet.

don't you think that people still want autonomy sometimes (from taking the bus and stopping 1000 times between home and work - and dealing with people) - but still fuel economy.  to me, small light cars would work if we had separate roads/lanes for them and no chance of a huge semi-truck head on or tail into.

I just read about that big oil strike not far from Allentown, PA.

Apparently, the first wells are going down in some nice family's lovely backyard.  You know, the one with the "McCain for President" sign on the front lawn?  It seems some nice pianist lives there with her hubby and kids.  She was on CNN, drinking straight out of a vodka bottle (airline size), saying it reminded her of being back in Alaska again.

"Let 'er gush," she said, weaving about the yard.  "Let 'er gush!"

(Bob thought this was a discussion about technique vs. lit again.  Drill vs. no drill [ie lit])

Right you are, Bob.  So Czerny says to Hanon:  "Your drills are just dry wells, bub."
