Need suggestions about fingering this passage (fugue in a minor BWV 543)
on: September 01, 2008, 09:17:09 PM
Hi, I am currently working with Bach: Prelude and Fugue a minor BWV 543 (Liszt piano adaption) and I can't decide about fingering in a passage.
I have attached a scanned image with the passage and my fingering. What I don't like is that though I want this passage to be as legato as possible, I have to do "jumps" quite often, for example, I use 5+2 on one sixth, and then I move to another sixth directly after, but I use 5+2 on that one as well. And I can't play legato that way (have a look at the scanned image and you will understand what I mean).
Does anyone have any good suggestions for fingering this passage?

Considering the pianistic nature of the writing (octaves in the bass), "legato as possible" without using the pedal would not be realistic.
I've revised the fingering on the particular section that you indicated. Notice that only the thumb plays inner voice.
Also note that the hand will immediately feel a huge difference in the amount of comfort as you play.
And thank you for making the effort to upload a score. It makes it so much easier to understand your problem.
