Camp Audition
on: September 04, 2008, 07:25:47 PM
A few months ago, I began to entertain the idea of going away to a music camp for the summer. At this point, however, I new it was much to late for this year so I decided that I would want to go for one next year. I have thought a lot about Interlochen as I have heard great things from it so I am considering putting in an audition there for next year. So at this point, I am trying to decide which two pieces I will try to perfect for it. I know that the auditions are very competitive and thus the pieces will not be easy. So I ask the veteran players (and potentially those who attended Interlochen) what are some ideas for audition pieces? I have Liebestraum No. 3 by Liszt under my belt pretty well and I have just started working on Etude No. 4, Op. 10 by Chopin as well as Etude No. 5, Op. 39 by Rachmaninoff. Some insight would be greatly appreciated.

they probably hear these pieces all the time
how about the Fugitive visions by prokofiev (or some of them)
or Shostakovich prelude and fugue No. 2 (sounds impressive)

So I have begun to work on Medtner's Fairy Tales of Op. 20 and also Bach Prelude and Fugue No. 9 of WTC Vol II. If I manage to nail these, would I have a decent shot?
