I agree with Healdie.

an example would be chopin etude no.1 op.25. My pinkies hate me right now because of the soreness, since i never had to stretch them this much until i started this etude.

Gotta be Rachmaninoff. There isn't a single thing he wrote that feels comfortable when I play it.

Bach, because I can never get it to sound right and I always feel self conscious playing his works in front of other people - I'm sure they'll tell me off for playing it too romantically.

Bach is the only composer I have trouble memorising.  Of course there's plenty of other reasons why his music is challenging.

Definitely Chopin. I love listening to his works, but somehow when I go to play them they seem much harder than I thought they were (even his simple waltzes).
It all happens on Discworld, where greed and ignorance influence human behavior... and perfectly ordinary people occasionally act like raving idiots.

A world, in short, totally unlike our own.

For myself, I would have to say Shoenberg and those guys.  I have trouble making sense out of it.

For those who have trouble with Chopin 25/1, I had problems with it too until I was told to rotate my elbows outward when the pinkies are playing the melody and inward for the rest of the arpeggio.  If you keep this sort of rolling motiion with your elbows/arms, you can shift weight where you need it.  Also, you obviously can't "reach" most of these outer notes while trying to keep them connected with the others--nobody has pinkies that extensible!  You just have to move your arm, shifting the hand to play the pinky notes, and pedal properly to make it sound legato

Bach and Schumann

although im the same as healdie- i find it difficult to play anything i dont like

which explains perfectly why i have trouble with any Bach i've tried so far, but i like Schumann so i dont know *shrugs*

maybe its become a mental block. if someone gave me a Schumann piece but altered the composer on the first page, then as long as it wasnt something of his i knew and as long as they didnt change it to a composer it blatantly wasnt like Schoenberg then i would probably cope just fine =P

Schumann - it is a long process for me to figure out what notes in what hand to emphasize to bring out the melodies, so it all sounds like a mess...I just don't get him.

None of Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Bach, etc. is uncomfortable to play.......

......that is, if you compare them with people like Sorabji (Who wrote Opus Clavicembalisticum, which is 4 hours long!!!!) and Finnisy (Unusual complexity in his music). Their music is pain in the neck...... also pain in the fingers and ears too.
