I'm doing a postgraduate course at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and for my end of year recital, I need a one hour programme. I want to end the recital with a lengthy difficult sonata, and I just wondered if anyone had any ideas. I have been practicing the Rachmaninoff sonata 2 (original version), but I think because it is about half and hour long, so I'll only have half and hour for other pieces. Maybe something 20 minutes long, like a Prokofiev sonata. Also I'm thinking of entering big competitions when I leave, and I have seen quite a few performances of Prokofiev sonatas in competitions on youtube.
If anyone can think of any other pieces to go along with the big sonata, that would be appreciated too. Thanks.
Russ.
