I'm taking a Chopin Seminar course this semester so I'm reading Huneker's Chopin biography as well as Chopin's letters translated by Henryk Opienski.

I'm thinking of getting started on the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer just for fun.

I'm re-reading Turning the Mind into and Ally by Sakyong Mipham.  Tibetan Buddhism.  I've dabbled into some Buddhism before, what's unique about this guy is that he was raised to teach these things, but was also raised in the west, so there's an easier understanding. (I read a book by the Dalai Lama and half of it left me confused).

This book has inspired me to do a little meditation each day, for the past 6 weeks.  When I'm doing it right, it feels a lot like the mindset of when I'm having a good piano-practice. I swear, it's helped with my billiards too, heh, shifting into the focused minset and making better shots.

I've also been slowly reading through Thoreau's Walden.  An interesting character!  Most of all I enjoy his descriptions of nature, so observant and colored with a poetic eye.

Sounds like where I was at about a year and a half ago to last April. It helped my piano and billiards too, not to mention my overall mental health.  I should get back to meditating, the stress levels in my life are getting high. Meditation is hard when there's a lot going on, and it was not compatible with my return to the world of theatre. Looking forward to being secluded later in the week, and over much of Christmas break.  8)

May I suggest A Guide to the Bohdisattva Way of Life by Santideva, the best Buddhist tome I've found. Certainly interesting, to say the least.

I love his descriptions of nature too, but remember that Walden is only 10-12 miles from Boston, he was right near a train station and his mother brought him food and supplies every week. Kind of like an 11 year old camping in the backyard.  ::) I guess he's ok... many of his writings and beliefs certainly resemble Buddhist thought, in a superficial way.

I'm about halfway through Benazir Bhutto "Daughter of the East" Autobiography. I didn't know much about this lady (or the Bhutto's) and last year hearing about her assassination last year was a shock. The book truly makes you think about justice, or lack of, in this modern day world.

When I dabbled earlier I took it on an as-needed basis, then it fell away.  Now I'm thinking it's more like daily practice, eating well, sleeping well.  Gotta try and make it habit.  Still, I get swamped too :-\  Lately my obstacles have been sitting for 15 mins without the back getting tense.  Sometimes I can do it, sometimes I can't.  Other times I get all foggy and fall asleep, hahah :D

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll add it to my next order!

Ah I didn't know that his mother brought him stuff! While reading, I do get the impression that he's just kind of experimenting around out there. I still give props for not just playing with airy philosophy but also trying to live by his ideas.

I'm currently reading an excellent book about Chopin called Chopin Pianist and teacher by Jean-Jacques Eigeldinger.

If you like Chopin you need this book! ;D Only problem is when reading peoples accounts of how Chopin played the piano it will ready make you envy them - you will wish you were born then! heres a link to what it looks like.

I'm reading Don Quixote at the moment.  It's quite fun, if a bit repetitive.

I second iroveashe's post about the Holmes stories, I found them extremely addictive and read all the short stories in a row, buying the subsequent books as I was coming to the end of one despite having a load of unread books lined up at home.
