Honesty, courage, knowledge of self.

Have those, and everything will follow. If you know you lack a skill, you will put in the work to gain it because you don't fear failure.

Oh yes, honesty!

That's a good one.  I might consider knowledge of self to be the same as honesty.

Self deception could be seen as a lack of courage to face what we know on a deeper level.  I believe that most people who aren't being honest with themselves actually know the truth but just can't handle it.

Yeah, but it's possible to be honest with others but not really with yourself, since that's the hardest. And courage might be misinterpreted as recklessness. We should know our limits.

Different ways of looking at it I guess.  I've never considered anybody who's dishonest with themselves to be capable of being honest with me, they feed me the same lies they feed themselves, in a way that's what makes a good liar.

Agreed about courage and recklessness, the line is sometimes hard to discern!  Sometimes we just have to be comfortable with the possibility of getting into a sticky situation.

I'm not sure if this would be consider a skill, but I think it's important to learn how to set boundaries.  Know when it's time to help, but also know when it's time to step back.

If you learn how to set boundaries in the beginning, you'll save yourself from grief later.  The saying is true for some people - you give an inch and they take a mile.
