Bach, Mathematics/Numerology Book?
on: September 19, 2008, 07:22:21 PM
I was reading through a thread in which Bernhard posted talking about realting teaching to student type and mentioning mathematical elelments and numerology/encrypted stuff in Bach's works. I was just wondering if there was a book with such information in as it sounds like an interestig read.

Check out Dr. Ruth Tatlow's papers (shes also one of the chair members of the Bach Network UK), she presented a brilliant piece of research at the 2007 Mass in B minor Symposium. Google her!

Bernhard was talking about Goedel, Escher, Bach, The Eternal Braid, by Hofstadter.  Go here to see description: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6del,_Escher,_Bach

I have read about half of it.  It is worth the attempt but most bog down somewhere in the depths of it.

Thanks for the link, I shall look into it, from the wikipedia page it looks very interesting, but yes I am sure it is something which is quite a 'hard' read.

I read half of Godel, Eshcer Bach when I was 8 years old... naturally I understood very little of it. Sometimes I think my dad gave my intelligence a little TOO much credit when I was a kid.
Working on:
Beethoven - Waldstein Sonata
Bach - C minor WTC I
Liszt - Liebestraume no. 3
Chopin - etude 25-12
