what sort of music is good for fundraiser for charity?
on: September 25, 2008, 02:43:47 PM
Hi all,
My kid's school is planning BBQ fundraiser. I am just wondering what sort of classical music or even contemporary music which will be suitable for this. It will be outdoor. I have never played music outdoor. My plan will be creating a musical and relaxing atmosphere for the event. I can only play on the Midi control keyboard. If you guys have experience for this, please let me know. My aim to make as much as money for the school. I will be playing only by myself at this stage. What should I look out for? Thanks

Anything would be good as it is charity, i think more focus will be on the fact your kid is doing a good thing. It all depends on his skill level though. Debussy - Claire de lune can go down well or canon in D

Outdoor on a midi keyboard
Well, sure, everything is about charity, but...
I will play a "charity" concert for the school I work for (as a part time accompanist) next January. All the money will be for the music budget of the school, and I will make sure to give a high quality classical concert. Indoors, on a good grand. The focus will be on music, anyway, and this is important. And it's a win-win situation, I get publicity and they get money for a good purpose. But music, no matter what and how and under which circumstances? No. You and your music are worth to be listened to and focused on. Just my 2 cents.

I think your best bet is an assortment of 'most loved classical pieces'; make it easy arrangements if you're not comfortable with sightreading under pressure.
Also, if you want an occasional break, you could pre-record a couple of numbers into your midi keyboard. Best of luck!
