What happens if the forum goes away?
on: September 27, 2008, 09:33:12 PM
Scary thought.  With all the collective time invested in it... Will it be permanent?

All this information though.  How permanent is it?  What determines whether it's here tomorrow or not?

Yes, part of the forum is the interactivity.  But there's so much material in the background too.

I thought of it with the two years thread.  What about ten years?  Twenty years from now?  Will this forum still exist?  The Wayback Machine only records the boards with thread titles.

the funding and the time that nils and...who are the other moderators again? Sorry guys memory is failing lately-just like my hairline :P So it's really here as long as nils etc can maintain it, it's definitely not permanent.

You mean like .pdf music, recordings etc.?

Depends on many factors but again, main ones would be funding and the work nils etc put into it. Thanks again guys! What's the Wayback Machine?

It's good information though.  That's my concern.  And a lot of effort.  It would nice to have it around for a long time.

Well, I've printed off some of my favorite posts.

I figure that if we practice and internalize the concepts, then they live on in us...  and should some of us get a lot of teaching experience, they might even be able to articulate the ideas well too.

Come to think of it, I've always been a junky for one forum or another.  Must be part of being a recluse :P  Also that none of my friends are into the same things I dig.

Everything changes and has an end.  Not a comfortable thought - but everything is a foundation for what will be, so in that way it endures when it has died.  I bet they thought the clavichord was the coolest technology and that nothing would ever supercede it - but thank goodness they invented the pianoforte.  Yet the piano would not have existed if the clavichord had not been there before.  Maybe in another 100 years, or even less, people will be amazed that we ever wasted our time trying to play this instrument called the piano, it is so 'limited'.

Live today fondly, because it is a fragile treasure that will be gone tomorrow, but experience every moment as an investment into 'eternity' - whatever you see that to be.  I try to make that the motto of my life.  When I became ill, I  think I actually began to understand that.

Just throwing in my 2 cents in a potentially philosophical thread....

"Nothing is permanent." Think that's a Buddhist tenet.

I don't think you understand the nature of procrastination if you think the forum going down will make a difference :)
