Compiled studies
on: October 13, 2008, 03:02:24 AM
I have a czerny/germer book of COMPILED (50 small studies, then 32 studies) studies. Is there a similar book but of a higher level? Because op. 299 and 740 sound good but I don't want to do the unnecessary. I know that most of you are czerny haters. Don't post unnecessarily.

I have that one too! From my uncle's (RIP) books... On the cover it says Vol.1, right? So maybe there's a Vol.2 somewhere, made of more difficult stuff.

I have one, but uncle didn't seem to have used it. No notes on the margins at all. That rarely happens.

I had the same Czerny - Germer book. I suppose that the first part (fist 10 studies) of opus 299 can be learnt after the 32 studies at the end of the book.

I use the opus 821 "160 Eight-measure exercises". They are short and allows for concentrating on a specific problem, and ordered roughly after difficulty. Towards the middle and end it gets more difficult than op 299, but in the beginning it is like in the middle of the first 50 etudes in Czerny-Germer.
It says "Practise each study 8 times in succession, thereby creating one larger study". Some of the etudes are also found in the 50 first in Czerny-Germer.
