Can't decide to take lessons again from the college.
on: November 01, 2008, 03:28:54 PM
Hey folks,

Beginning of last semester, my teacher decided to drop me from lessons at my university due to scheduling conflicts. There's another teacher available but her schedule filled up quickly, being that I wasn't the only student who was dropped. My (former) teacher said he would probably have room in the spring - but I can't decide if I would take lessons again from them being that I was dropped. They also had no consideration that I'm a piano major - and I think some students even got lessons even though it's their secondary instrument. It's really even more frustrating when you hear they haven't been practicing, yet they have a spot for lessons. *grumble*

I would rather take lessons from someone who was available all year round and not just seven months out of the year. I have trouble finding another teacher because I live in a smaller town.

Find a teacher that really works for you anywhere in the world, and move there.

I guess what I'm doing here is venting because I was dropped. Also, I don't really know what to expect. I don't want to feel like I'm being pushed around and only be there when it's convenient for *them*.

Well, I think what you need to figure out is if your reaction is helping you or hindering you, regardless of who else is or is not in your life, and then once you know that much, deal with the other people.

Wow sounds like my story. Fortunately someone was still available to teach me as a piano major. I thought she was a total terror, but I was mistaken. Now I'm glad I shifted to piano and stuck with it. It happens that although my teacher is antiquated (HUUUUUUUGE generation gap), she is very enthusiastic about students performing, even pop music, and competitions. So at first you'd think she's strict. But meh... am rambling... sorry.

LOL about moving anywhere in the world. That's possible, but very difficult.

As long as I'm studying in this school, I can't be bothered about finding a good teacher. I just do what is required plus practicing what I like on the side. Or rather the opposite. What I do is mostly my "method/ plan" and won't be affected much by what type of teaching I get.

I hope you still find a teacher somehow.
