intermezzi
on: November 02, 2008, 09:23:57 PM
as most of you probably know, the word intermezzo means intermission.

but what exactly is an intermezzo, in Brahms's music they are pieces without passion. but with many other composers it is very unclear to me what exactly the musical form of it is.

I think the man just wanted to know what an intermezzo is...
I am perfectly normal, it is everyone else who is strange.

oh.  ok.  well, he already said that intermezzo was like an intermission.  May i ask between what?  Between more intermissions?  Why did he write so many in a row?  Was this implying he was waiting more than humanly possible.

Yes. It does not mean "intermission". More like "interlude". And like "prelude" it has become an independent category. What the... Brahms intermezzi should not have passion??  ???

Maybe an intermezzo was ment like a 'short emotional relaxation piece' between 2 bigger pieces. Originally it probably started as a short piece to fill up the time when people had to do a decor change. But thats 'maybe' and 'probably' :p
