Once upon a time, it was the Golden Age of PSF. And there was the Hanon War (not the story, but for real)... https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,13583.0.html

I finally got my own copy of my favorite book, Golden Pav, and it's still amazing after 3+ times I've read it. Now I can highlight the text, and hopefully later write notes about it. I realize some things that I haven't been able to put in words before. Mishima is amazing at articulating these questions and answers and more questions. I am also busy with school, so please excuse for not being able to contribute much to the forum.

Oh and check out irove's thread on Beethoven if you got the time: https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,33494.0.html

WE WANT/ NEED BERNHARD! If you agree, please sign here:
https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,2260.0.html

Recently, I have been talking with this boy who's making much contributions on the forum and chat. I asked why he does what he does, and he said he sees that people have parts of them that are dead, and he wants to help. I agree with his point, and commend his efforts... but... I also see that the dead parts extend to more than individual problems, and particular discussions...

In short, this forum is dying, and this boy's efforts are small compared to the degree of death around here. Like I said, the Golden Age of PSF was over, and we are left broken. I think it has a lot to do with bernhard's absence, plus some members I'm not familiar with.

I must state firmly that it is not just about a single person, but a community. The return of bernhard would just be a great springboard for better days to come. I cannot think of a solution otherwise. Indeed, I have even tried to shoulder the problem myself, much like that boy... but to no avail.

Like I said in my other thread, I look around and I see in PSF the most talented and intelligent men who've ever been online. I see all this potential... and I see it squandered. Only bernhard has the knowledge, wisdom, charisma and heart to lead us to making better use of this potential.

That is a pretty interesting thing to claim to know.  If you truly can know such a thing as this, then obviously it is you who has to do what you believe needs to be done, since your insight apparently trumps everybody's.  Regarding the situation as you describe it, there is a *slight* possibility that things may not actually be as they must appear to you.

There may be a slight bias on my part. And what I said is actually a modified quote from a movie. But rest assured, I am doing what I can. I just feel that it isn't enough. That my efforts and that boy's efforts don't add up to much.

I don't see why you should antagonize me, except that you may think I'm too full of myself. See, I WAS, I tried to do everything, but now I realize I can't and I need other people...

Obviously I have no idea really about that.  But, logically, if you see what you claim to see, then you have scoured every website, blog, every detail of published thoughts on the 'net, and you know everybody here personally.  And, not only that, you must know particular members' insight and knowledge so entirely thoroughly, that you know it will lead the potential you think you see in others (which you also must know so entirely thoroughly that you apparently know what these individuals need to progress).  You know even better than Bernhard himself that he is somehow being "called" to lead what you think you see.  You obviously see a grander view than even he does, using some deeper knowledge and insight than even he has.

Anyway, I would like to go to the piano now and focus on doing some things that my mentor has asked for me to do there.

Then why are you antagonizing me?

I had the wrong choice of words. So what? You know what I'm trying to express, don't you? Otherwise you wouldn't feel the need to say anything about it.

I mean no disrespect, okay, I am NOT pretending to know more any more than I do, about anyone or anything. Which is exactly the point, since I need someone else's help to get a handle on things. Besides, you know what I've been trying to do, I said it in a PM, but you won't help me, and now you're questioning my motives. Are you so mad at me you want to destroy me or something? Huh? I like you, I consider you one of the greatest people here, I don't mean to say I know you that much but that what I know is a lot for me... Dammit...

Db, actually, I have no idea regarding most of what you are talking about in this post here, sorry  :P.  I think that the fact that you have said what you have said regarding members here could be taken as antagonistic.  I am simply responding to that from my own perspective.  I don't think this forum is dead without Bernhard, I don't think he is actually capable of pianistically "leading" some of the people here whom I think are "the most intelligent", and I don't know enough about whether the "men" here are the most intelligent people to ever be on the internet.  I also know that there is at least one woman here, too  :D.  Believe it or not, my response is not a personal attack on you, nor anybody really.  You are welcome to take it that way if that makes you feel better somehow ... or better yet, if that helps you to play better, but something tells me that's probably not the case for either one.

True, but I am NOT antagonizing you or bernhard. This is my way of showing appreciation, really. I said that you're one of the greatest mems. Supposing it was different, bernhard is here but you left, I would have felt and done the same thing.

If you think that is antagonizing, I'm screwed. :(

Well, why would I think that you referring to me as a "greatest" member is antagonizing to me ?  It could be antagonizing to others though.  It's nice if I am somehow of value around here, that's fine, but it's nicer if I am of value amongst many whom are of great value.

I think the main thing in this forum is that we are a diverse group of people and being in the Internet, we can assume what a person may think and feel through their posts here.  I feel that the new members that has joined (I joined at the end of January), will bring a new life into the forum, if we give them a chance and not be critical of what they post.  I don't know Bernard at all, so I have nothing to do with that.   And there are many other members that can contribute to this forum through their posts.

Peoples' lives change from day to day and we have to take that  into consideration.  Personal information is not given because of security reasons.  It is up to a member to make the choice to be an active member or not.  But, members, need to think more about what they are posting here instead of criticizing and demeaning other members.  It is not necessary to do that.  The humor aspect is fine.  I have read threads that a couple of members would attack each other, and I wonder if they enjoy that aspect of communicating.  And that's fine with me.  The members can choose to get involved in a thread or not.

I notice also, the threads has a tendency to get off the subject that is posted.  I know a member made an apology post, and then a rant post and so forth.  A member in chat room expressed that we hardly talk about music in the forum.  Well, I am afraid to post something because I am not a professional pianist.  But I have an insight to music that I would like to share.  I don't want the new members to feel that they are being undermined by the ones that are knowledgeable.

I am aware also, since I joined PS, that some members are not here for insight about music and piano playing.  I think they just pass on through and make one or two posts and never return.  But the members that remain and post on a daily basis do seem to add the flavor of this forum.  I don't think the forum is dying, it will keep going as long as we can contribute something worthwhile for the members here.

best wishes,

go12_3

Mentally what? I cannot help but suspect that your post here tells us more about your attitude to women (of which there appears to be amply evidence elsewhere on this forum) than it does about the subject (whatever that is) or about women themselves...

No, Thal, dear
We women are emotional and mental, therefore, that combination makes us interesting.   ;)
Men cannot be "emotional", then? Dear me! What an indictment! (or at least it would be were there any truth in it). Anyone who happens to be compromised in either or both of the emotional or intellectual departments might arguably have a serious problem. Thal's different; he just seems to have a problem with women, full stop. How very sad...

Dear Thal and ahinton:

Would you kindly begin another post, so that this thread will be in its original format and topic?  May I suggest a special post just for  Thal and  ahinton and then you can discuss whatever is on your minds.  Thank you!

best wishes,

If Thal wishes to start such a thread, that's up to him. My remarks were in response to comments in this thread, including those which I made about Thal's remarks also in this thread and yours in response to his. Your suggestion is noted but, for me, it is entirely unnecessary, so please do not look to me to start any such thing.

I do not know what motivates Thal's apparent problem with women but, since that is none of my business and since is is something that I absolutely do not share, I think that it is high time to accept those facts and move on to wherever this thread might next go, go.

Best,

A post to go, to "go"...

If you seriously believe that, you'll believe anything! Mon Dieu! I have no idea where Thal is going, but his bizarre remarks about women tend to leave me relatively content to remain unaware of his direction, let alone intended destination (if any), frankly...

you puzzle me dear db05.

Only a short while ago you seemed to be on the best of terms with K and in fact i thought you were developing a little bit of a fixation. Then, without reason, you think she is antagonizing you.

As i said, you women is mental.

Thal

Thal, you are correct in your observation. I loved Karli. But she was (unwittingly) breaking my heart into pieces (again) so I lashed out earlier. Now I have calmed down a bit.

I really do think it is not a good idea to love someone who is just a pixel on a computer screen.

How she was "breaking your heart", i have no idea.

Do you bat for the other side perhaps??
