Generally I am not real "into" politics, but I have to say that this is a pretty important election and (so far) I am happy about the way it has gone.

Congrats, Obama :)

To celebrate this historic occasion the African Americans living near me have thrown acorns at windows and egged cars within the last twenty minutes.

Change. How disillusioned can America get? For the first time, I am disappointed in my country.

I'm relatively young, so I should clarify that I mean within my lifetime.

Besides the fact, It is one thing to be be disappointed in the action and decisions of a select powerful few. The masses have blindly fucked up this time. The sheer media bias and utmost unprecedented propaganda in our country makes me fear for our future as individuals in a free country. This is textbook, and a historian will tell you that as of tonight, America is following the path of downfall.

And the past 8 years have been ... ??  Bush has about 27% approval ratings at the time, yet he got voted in not once, but TWICE by the masses (major oooops).  Don't know what you mean about "this time."

Approval ratings are about as useful as polls, nobody asked me what I thought of the president. Bush was dealt an extremely hard hand, and although he didn't always come through You can't BEGIN to tell me John Kerry or AL Gore could have done better. PLEASE convince me if you think so.

Obama's radical religious ties and leftist policies will only continue America's inferior education and our general wealth will begin to decrease. You Europeans have your wish, you can now scowl at China for being the superpower. But all of this is considered null due to Obama's skin color? And we don't want to perpetuate Racism? What twisted logic is this? WHAT IS GOING ON? I DON"T CARE IF OBAMA IS ORANGE.

Go to the obama website, copy all of his platform points, paste them here, and strike them all down, one by one, showing they will only continue America's inferior education and wealth decrease.

Otherwise, i call that sore loserism.

Your sudden remarks about politicsa have seriously demaged my oppinions  about you...

Anyway in norway we have what you in America would call Wealth redistribution. I happen to have a disabled friend who is unable to work for different reasons. He is able to live a fairly comfortable live, just because of this wealth redistribution.

The wealth of the world is obviously unfairly spread. It doesn't mean that everybody have to be exactly equal, but that the poorer segments of the society should get some help. The poor people can't be blamed for their missery all alone >:(

For wars maybe (and sadly, probably) not but from stupid, arrogant wars, certainly.

Anyway it's quite a great day. I'm like light years away from Chicago but this election gave me goosebumps!

I don't think people are that happy. I'm happy for the Americans, I believe he can help solve issues that George Bush was simply instigating.

Not iran - but the exact enemy we bombed in WWII and whom started the war with a dictator named Hitler.  That is my guess, only - but one that could be true because Germany has another agenda today - and it is to control Europe.  Second only to Iran in hatred of America/Americans is Germany.  Why?  Because they are fast becoming a superpower and want to control energy sources.  Look at how many are now owned in Europe by Germany.  This is because Russia won't give in to certain demands on control of it's pipelines: https://www.rferl.org/content/article/1068873.html  If Obama is to play his cards right - He needs to consolidate his allies quickly.  Alaska/Canada, Mexico, South America (on the condition that terrorists are removed asap).  I didn't mention Israel because I don't know how he feels about Israel. However, if we don't have a hand in the middle east - it's a quagmire.  Just as the BIBLE says.

The way I see it the world can be divided into the EU, Asia, Africa, mideast far east and the U.S. The Eu was once under the third Riech ( third rise), it changed Europe and greatly influenced the mid-east. What we have today is a politically isolated U.S, it is no longer a super power nor will it ever be . If Obama surves his own people ( the U.S ) then he would make a good president, however if wars are diclared abroad, then it is the American people that will pay the price.

  To be continued.

Pianistimo, youre getting very silly. Please try to think and critizice your sources first before you post anything so you keep ('for Christ sake') some dignity. Saying and believing that Germany wants to control Europe is another dummy statement based on radical views. And about energy sources... The only thing theyre doing is getting good at solar power technology to get some energy independancy.

Also your ideas about Israel are very typical. You think as Israel as your biblical idiology and are not able to objectivly look what Israel is really doing in the middle east.
Plus a smart tactic for peace is NOT like you say 'have a hand' (to make war easier in that region), but instead try making less enemies in that region. Only by diplomacy you get true peace.

Yes... Very nice, I was hoping Obama for president  :)

Although, I must say, I am getting rather tired of people calling Obama far left, or socialist, whatever. The man's politics about economy are quite equal to those of the conservatives here in Sweden, and yet I have seen numerous Republicans on the news lately claiming Obama would be out far to the left, with radical socialist views. Personally, I find it quite silly, just because he isn't ultra-conservative like McCain. Now I know people here will claim that McCain isn't that conservative, but from my Swedish point of view, yes - he certainly is. I wonder, if Obama is a socialist, what does that make Sweden then? We are traditionally a country with social democrats governing. Currently we have the conservatives, but it is just temporary it seems.

Public health care and schools - are we communists from an American point of view?
The reality is of course that we are not a communistic country and we never have been, and the reality is also that Obama is not far left, nor is he a socialist. Quite different opinions from other presidents, I can imagine, but I think this is a good thing.

We´re actually a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarchy. All Hail the king!

I´m happy Obama won. In 1964 ( ::)) blacks achieved the same civil rights as everyone else. Now there´s an afro american president. I dig.

Bravo America.  You have inspired people all over the world, and people living inside your borders to love you again, to be inspired by you, and to see the limitless potential for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

This election is a repudiation of the dominant governing philosophy from the last twenty years: wealth redistributed to the wealthy does not "trickle down" to the less fortunate; elections are not best won by dividing the nation as much as possible to achieve 51% (Rovian philosophy); and most importantly, the country is starting to see through the fraud charlatanism of Objectivism, the Ayn Rand creed that is the soul of the Republican party, the creed that says every man for himself.  Finally Americans are beginning to realize that all actions have consequences for more than just themselves, but everyone else around them, in their neighborhoods, cities, counties, states, country, and even around the world.

I believe the debate between socialism and individualism is going to be over; as we have already seen, it wasn't relevant to the voters to call Obama over and over again a socialist.  I hope there can be a new consensus, based on the interconnectivity of the world, rather than the Randist extreme individualism.  When Rand declared that government had no purpose other than to defend contracts, when she insisted it had no business creating social programs to help the neediest people, when she said that taxes were inherently evil, she set up fifty years ago the disaster that we are in today.

All around America, the Republicans, inspired by her contempt of government, have tried to destroy people's perceptions of government.  Leading by incompetence, they have hoped to persuade people that programs like Social Security and medicare and FEMA and many others were the problem (not the administrators of those programs); they tried to outsource everything to private sectors (even the military in Iraq).  They tried to show through sheer failure, that government could and should not serve people.

But the fact is that philosophy is profoundly anti-American.  Thomas Paine, one of the unsung founding fathers of our country, wrote in the days of the French Revolution that a constitution is a compact between citizens, an agreement that gives government certain powers.  He wrote that it was the people who gave the government power, not the other way around - this idea was revolutionary.  Ayn Rand stated that no such compact could exist between people, and government was therefore evil and morally infeasible.

We see now that the world is connected in ways we never imagined.  Iceland's market collapses, and people all over the world feel the aftershocks.  The largest energy consumers in the world refuse to act to protect the environment, and the rest of the world suffers.  Objectivism, and the Republican party, have no answers to those problems.

An African-American is elected president of a country founded on the contradiction of freedom and slavery, and I guarantee that will resound throughout the world.

The new idea, which will hopefully provide us consensus for at least a little while, has to be how we are all interconnected, not old-fashioned, irrelevant debates between socialistic principles and individualistic principles.

It will be 'every man for himself' under Obama.  There isn't any money, Walter.  Where's it all coming from.  The rich people gave to the 700 billion bailout.  This is ridiculous to make plans from a plate with no money on it.  Where's the money coming from.  The rich people left or are leaving?  There's no incentive.

Socialist, communist. it's all the same. People have nothing and pretend they do.  It's a pretend life to live above one's means.  What we are living with is a depression.

Germany IS and does have plans.  You can say they don't.  Time will tell.  Don't take that personally, Bert, because you personally don't have plans.  The thing is - the nazi underground (called something else) do. They have personally had a hand in planning social, political, and economic programs for EU because they are supplying energy.  Energy is their strong hand and they can't get enough from Russia.  Where will they get it next?

Ayn Rand was a playwright, novelist, and objectivist.  She imigrated to this country at age 21 from Russia.  Her views, although seemingly altruistic are actually quite different than those of the founding fathers because she just liked to see the final product and not the assembly line.  She wrote about 'the virtue of selfishness' in regards to her philosophies of independence and government.  I do not subscribe to this classical liberalism - because my ideal isn't nietzche.

My ideal is Jesus Christ.  He set the same goals for all - and if you don't meet them it's your own durn tush that gets the hot seat.

The nazi's went underground after WWII and then installed the very same plans into the programs of the UN.  https://www.singapur.diplo.de/Vertretung/singapur/en/03/Global__Commitments/Germany__security__council.html  ESPECIALLY the ideals in the bill of rights - which leaves out G-d. Why.  Because G-d doesn't like people messing with other people's brains.  Psychological stuff.  It's just wrong.

Also, it is wrong to use cadavers (instead of burying them) for museum display.  We don't know who half of them are.  This is a modern display going around the world - directly from germany.

OK.  I suppose i'll get some american bashing back - but hey, we typically don't just say - look - see all the parts of the human skin - layer by layer - and allow our children to be in wonderment about it - as thought this is the most natural thing in the world.  This was, in the past, saved for people going into the medical profession at best.

I'm so pleased that Obama won.

And thank-you, f*cking, stupid idiots like Pianistimo aren't calling the shots, though I'm sure Pianistimo secretly prayed that the Republicans would somehow have stolen the election, like the last two times.  She prays so hard, doesn't she?  She just MUST have her agenda.

I may be relatively new here, but Pianistimo's posts make me want to puke.  A typical example of why the rest of the world just laughs at Americans and their self-righteous superiority.

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
