Cesar Franck Violin & Piano Sonata
on: November 09, 2008, 07:10:37 PM
Hi guys,
I am working on it.
I must say that I love it even if some parts are still a little bit difficult for me...
Did you have a chance to play it?
Thanks.

I've played it a couple of times at least. If you can't find a violinist, by the way, Cortot did a solo piano transcription of it.
Instrumentalists are all wannabe singers. Discuss.

Yes, I've seen that.  And of course flutists and cellists claim the sonata for their own also.  Argerich has recorded it with Galway and Maisky.  I still prefer the original though...

Ultimately it's not as frustrating as hearing the Faure 1st violin sonata played on flute... terribly tedious.

I've played it with a violist!  Some of it workes, but the parts kept getting crossed and you lose clarity - I guess that's why he wrote it for violin!
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.
