Quitting the piano (Not again...)
on: November 11, 2008, 12:13:06 AM
I don't know, my mind is confused right now. I am quite saddened last night when my mom did her usual "please focus your studies" crap thing-a-ma-jig. When I was bringing up the topic of ordering sheet music online, there she did her thing. Then... She said this: If you do not improve your studies the I will not buy you a piano (this time with full keys). I was shocked, played some Chopin waltz and found myself weeping. Until now, I do not know what to do.

Please forgive me for asking this again. I usually play the piano at night on weekdays and often, my mom asks me to lower down my fortes because:
A.) To hear what she was watching
B.) "We might get heard by our neighbors"

Irony. I do not know what to do now. This is bribery at its finest. Please, help me if you could.

Focus and improve in your studies and get a digital piano for your bedroom, where you can plug earphones in and play anytime you want.

Sorry if I can't help. Your mom is terrible, that's all I can say.
I'm sinking like a stone in the sea,
I'm burning like a bridge for your body

I do have a digital piano but the bedroom's small and I do not have a headphone. As for my studies, how can I focus when I'm being told the same old garbage everyday everytime I play the piano. She started that thing when she saw my "horrible" grades. When did grades measure a person's performance in the first place?

Ever since, I got more frantic and my brain almost exploded when I was rushing in projects. I still feel a little bit "statc" until now.

:'(

Sorry if I can't help. Your mom is terrible, that's all I can say.

That's fine.

I guess you have to buy headphones. Never mind a real piano, since your mom is like that anyway, you might not be able to play it.

I understand where you're coming from, I feel like quitting myself but half of me is saying, "I'll show THEM..." I don't know if that's a good enough reason to continue. There are still music I want to play myself, and not just hear others play. But seeing that there are already a lot of good pianists out there, who will listen to us?

My mom is the exact opposite of yours, she's tone deaf and anything I play would be music to her ears. It's disgusting. She has no taste. It doesn't help me at all.

Even if I play with headphones, my mom would still do that, no matter what. She even told me one night that playing the piano is "just a hobby". Well, I felt insulted. My mind disappeared after she said that.

So much for all these musicians that play in front of an audience. Hmm....

There is a point, though. That is the chances of you or me being concert artists are slim to none. I'd set my sights on being a teacher, but I've been thinking of dumping that, too. It's true that some see piano as just a hobby, and it's not a problem as long as they don't insult people who give it more importance. They think art is sooooooo easy.

Doesnt really make sense. She was considering buying you a piano, but you you dont have place for a digital piano...... and you already have a digital? But without headphones? :S

I suppose you should buy yourself some headphones and play your digital, whereever its standing now, or move the thing to another place in your house.
