In the spirit of the duels that used to populate the audition room, here is an invitation:

By July 1, 2009, post in YouTube four videos, up to 10 minutes each.  Repertoire is free.

We can have voting during the month of July and declare a winner July 31.

Fun?
Money does not make happiness, but it can buy you a piano.  :)

Fun?

Only if I win and by doing so, gain access to a full orchestra with some of the most accomplished musicians in the world, a concert Hall to play in, 9 different *amazing* pianos to practice on, a library with unimaginable treasures in it (including a cricket and a frog), many musicians to mingle with and learn from, and a huge supply of time and space with which to sink into musical oblivion at will.

Otherwise, it sounds reasonably interesting :).

Not sure if forum voting is a good idea, it seems many of the members here have the musicality of a stick insect, but other than that, yes, seems like a very good idea.

That would be interesting. Except... maybe different divisions? Because we have many different levels of pianists here. Someone who's been studying for 2-3 yrs has no chance against a seasoned performer.
It all happens on Discworld, where greed and ignorance influence human behavior... and perfectly ordinary people occasionally act like raving idiots.

A world, in short, totally unlike our own.

I would try, but see, I'm just an intermediate student with little repertoire, no decent piano and no video camera.  :'( I wanted to post in audition room, too...

Well, no, I can't honestly say that I have.  I was just curious though as to the choice of apparatus !  I guess it's something you are quite good at though.

If anyone were ever daft enough to waste his/her time attempting to video me playing the piano, the piano would probably shatter...

there should be different sections because the more experienced members like Marik Franzliszt2 Electrafingers etc will kill everyone so i think that there should be like 5 different sections.

Might be quite fun. I think marik probably has more important things to concern himself with, still it would be nice to see him play for once.

If you want to impress me, no need to play Liszt. I propose a different competition, playing the same pieces, my favorites of different composers/ eras/ moods. I think it would be more interesting than virtuoso pieces all the time.

Scarlatti - Sonata K 183 -
&index=9
Chopin - Prelude in Db "Raindrop" -

Satie - Sonatine Bureaucratique -

Post videos of all three pieces. Whoever gets the most votes, wins. The winner shall be my PSF boyfriend. This is a challenge especially for fredericfrancoischopin and loonbohol but anyone interested can join (as long as you're not married or in a relationship - I don't want to get in any possible trouble here  :P).

Let's see what you make of this.  ;D

Four ten minute pieces is quit a bit of work.  How about two to begin with.  Then those top voted could go one more round.  If you are an active piano player three in total should not be out of the question.  However I like the idea, and since there is no real winnings everyone should be grouped together so it does not become to complicated.  Or maybe nills could give out a free gold membership to the winner!!!

How about competitions per composer? Chopin, Beethoven, Bach, etc. Would Sir Hinton like to sponsor a Sorabji competition?
