student recital activity
on: December 03, 2008, 01:13:23 AM
Hi everyone-

Please allow me to pick your brains one more time.

I am giving a student recital/master class on Dec. 13th and would like some type of warm up activity that is fun, and can be done as a group.

The students range in age from 7-14.

Any thoughts or ideas??

Well, it kind of depends on exactly what you mean by "warm up activity" ... do you mean a way for people to introduce themselves to each other ?  Or, do you mean some kind of physical activity to physically warm up ?  Or, do you mean some kind of crowd pleaser to loosen the atmosphere a bit before the class starts ?

Good point Karli-

I'm interested in some type of crowd pleaser to loosen the atmosphere a bit before the class starts.

In the past I've paired students together and had them work through music crosswords, quizzes, etc.

But this time I was hoping to come up with an activity that uses more of a whole group setting.

My primary intention is to get the students talking, smiling, and relaxed before they play.

I've been thinking of this too.  I haven't come up with an activity, other than play something and have them dance around - but they'd think I was nuts.  So, I am planning on playing 'Rhapsody Rabbit' from Looney Tunes before they play.  I think it will make them laugh, which is the point, to loosen them up.
