Changing music college
on: December 10, 2008, 05:30:43 PM
I'm trying to decide whether to change from another 'Royal' conservatoire, to the Royal College of Music in London, and I do not want to mention which one it is, as someone I know might be reading this (and I do not want to give the place a bad name, as it IS a great conservatoire!). It is not in London put it that way! It is very hard for me to decide what to do, as I am 28 in my first year as a postgrad, but not happy with the place in general. I think I would feel better if I was in London.
Has anyone ever done this before, do you think it is the right decision? I know how hard it is to get into RCM, or RAM, and I think it is too late since it is Xmas already!
Thanks

Yes, I have done it before -- twice, as a matter of fact. I moved away from one, and into another program, and then back to the one I moved away from in the first place
. Whether it is the right decision or not is completely up to you. What matters most, imo, is where you can use your potential in the biggest way, or in other words, where you are going to grow the most. I think that many people choose schools primarily on the name of the school and what they think that in and of itself is going to do for them. I have always found that what matters WAY more than names, is of course the actual content/program and how I respond to it. That goes for individual teachers, too.
Then again, it depends very much on what you are hoping to gain from your experiences and endeavors !
Anyway, back to Bach for me for now
