piano four hands
on: December 10, 2008, 07:55:40 PM
Hello,

I have a concert in march and i'm still looking for a piece (about ten minutes) for piano four hands.
But an original piece. maybe a tango, or something spanish or someting else, but not the usual things.
All tips are welcome!

Schubert wrote some terrific music for piano four hands, not just the 'Everest' of them all, the F minor Fantasie.

You'll find them sprinkled in the Schubert section of IMSLP.  For starters I'd recommend the Two Marches D968, or the evergreen Military Marches D733.

If you want something pleasantly innocuous, not technically demanding, and almost exasperatingly 'people pleasing', Gurlitt and Diabelli amply fed the market.  And on a higher level, there's always Clementi's interesting sonatas for four hands.

Have fun!

There are tons of four-hand "unusual" things.  Off the top of my head:

Glinka-Lyapunov Valse Fantasie (original solo by Glinka, 4H by Lyapunov), about 8 minutes;
Tailleferre Suite Burlesque, quite easy, 6 movements, about 7 minutes.

You can find the score to the latter easily, but up till now I still don't have the score of the first.

Im not sure how unusual these are considered for four hand rep, but how about:

Ravel-- Ma Mere l'Oye-- add or subtract movement for timing

Poulenc Sonata for piano four hands (audiences love this one, esp. the Finale)-- 7 min I think

Dvorak Slavonic Dances (the first one is a great people pleaser too-- 5 min.)

Good luck!
