I need to select a piece of the contemporary era for a local piano competition my piano teacher gave the choice to me but im having a little trouble deciding. I'd like something about 5-10 minutes,also relatively flashy.

i dont see why alistair hinton couldnt be an option actually

I can personally recommend Alistair Hinton's "Birthday Paraphrase for Ronald Stevenson," Op. 20.  (Based on the second movement of Schumann's G-minor Sonata, Op. 22.)

Very florid, rather challenging, but very beautiful.

Available through the Sorabji Archives.
Current repertoire:  "Come to Jesus" (in whole-notes)
