Merry Christmas everyone, and best of luck for the new year.

For Christmas I'm getting a trip to Melbourne for the archery championships, but apart from that I wouldn't mind books. Lots of books.

I have this feeling the world's gonna shut down for a day, and happiness will abound, and then it will pick up again like a machine...but we'll new toys to think about while the machine gets cranking.

Christmas arrived today for me, when postie arrived with my concertos.

I actually detest Christmas and try to avoid it at all costs. Having worked for a Bank for 20 years, you get to see the aftermath and have to do your best to help people. The amount of people who get themselves into unpayable debt is absurd and the stress and suffering it causes in this repsect has put me off Christmas for life.

My workmates think i am a miserable git (which could be true ), since i will not even open Christmas cards and refuse to have my name included on the company card.

I feel that over the years Christmas has lost its original meaning and is just an excuse for excess that cannot always be afforded.

To hell with it.

I'm visiting my relatives in Port Pirie. There will be about 50 of them, and at least 10 will be frowning upon me for not wearing a skirt or dress, and if I do wear a skirt or dress, having it too short and without petticoats.
The food is good though, and after dinner I plan to hide in the loungeroom and watch the ballroom dancing on tv.

Oh, and over here, as of 9 minutes ago, it is Christmas!

Have a great day all!

I will be at my sister-in-law's house tomorrow for lunch and drinks, and will be returning home on Boxing Day.

When I lived at home, we used to go up to the the local church on Christmas Eve.
But now I go to the Pub instead.
If God really exists, then why haven't I got more fingers?

PS Happy Christmas

I can relate to a lot of what you say. For many people who are alone or in hopeless situations this is an awful time, all the messages of joy and happiness must cut them like a knife. And the commercialization and materialism are quite sickening. But that's why we need to focus on the real meaning of the holiday; the friendship and giving.

Merry Christmas everyone, and to you too Thal  ;)

No you'd just give haggis now. ;D

Yet again, another stereotypical approach to the Scottish. It's like assuming all Australians talk like Rolf Harris and constantly eat crocodile and kangeroo and have panic attacks over the possibility of sharks attacking you on the beach. Or that your national animal is "Skippy the Bush Kangeroo". :)

Unlikely to get anything from a scotsman.

I knew one once that took his hair home from the barbers so he could stuff his pillows.

Thal

Just because you have met some weird people (which you get everywhere) doesn't mean everyone in that entire country is the same. I wouldn't assume all English are stuck-up, ignorant b******s...just the majority of them. ;)

You even lost me there...lol

It's amazing how different it all sounds when you change it back into proper English. Even worst when you use Shakespearian English.

If somebody gave me that, I'd hit them with it and tell them where they can stick it. Mind you...I wouldn't need it. Perhaps it is a hint...:P

"cellphone"? That's just another (usually American) way of saying "a mobile" isn't it? :)
