2009: Resolutions & Plans
on: December 27, 2008, 06:57:48 PM
With this year coming to a close, and 2009 here in a few days: has anyone considered any "New Year's Resolutions"? Is there anything you plan to do, or change about yourself or something else?

I can't think of any yet...but I'm working on it. If I do think of a resolution, I need to also "resolute" to be able to keep my resolution going for as long as possible...as I usually give up, or break it within a few weeks!

So, tell us your plans/resolutions (within reason).

There is nothing more ephemeral than new year's resolutions. So I don't have any anymore. 8)

To get my bronze level qualification in dancing, and to start working towards my silver. Also to get assignments done before the night before they are due...like that's gonna happen though.

To go on a downward spiral to oblivion.  :)

To wipe out my savings + Christmas money before summer break by photocopying/ printing all the sheets I can find and eating out as often as possible.

To not study anything unless it's an emergency.

To kiss my teacher every week.

To start impossible pieces like Rach 2.

In other words you are currently:

A fat, lazy, unemployed, raving lunatic on roads?

You should describe yourself more clearly on here, otherwise people get a different perspective about you. :P

Rather blunt/rude today aren't we...not being fit does not make me fat, not practicing enough is more a lack of being able to use the piano, unemployed is correct and raving lunatic and driving without regard for some minor road rules are different things.

To continue to refuse to learn conformist mainstream repertoire.
To try to find more time to practice (and learn pieces that almost nobody has heard of) :)
To show the appropriate level of respect to politicians ie none.

There are definitely things simmering I have kept "lying in wait" that I am going to change/make a part of my life, but I will proceed with them when the time is right.  What may make New Year's Resolutions "ephemeral", as Wolfi said, is that they are birthed from a shallow place.  For real change, we must come to a boil.

To actually work towards goals I care about. Lately, I've been ridiculously lazy, but then gotten upset when I couldn't achieve what I wanted, which made me feel useless and depressed, which then made me lazier... truly a vicious cycle. The best example of this occurred during my most recent seating auditions :-[
It all happens on Discworld, where greed and ignorance influence human behavior... and perfectly ordinary people occasionally act like raving idiots.

A world, in short, totally unlike our own.

Well resolved, pianowolfi!  The only way to overcome fear is to face it head on.  That, as you know, is courage.  Facing fear makes it grow smaller.  Doing the fearful thing makes it dissipate.

Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
