Hi

There were some problems with computer few days ago. I have reformatted my computer and tried to re- install all the programs from my computer. However, the only one program is needed the product key which I have no idea where to find them. If anyone knows the product key for 2007 microsoft office publisher, please let me know. It is very important to me, I do my music newsletter and school notices on bands and advertisements on it. Many thanks

That won't work. If you enter someone else's key the computer will recognise it (online) as belonging to an already-installed version. You'll have to phone Microsoft to sort that one out.

And MS will charge about $100 just to speak with you.

I would google your situation.  You can't be the only one.

The number would be on the installation disc of course.  Or maybe with an account if you downloaded the program.

There are programs, free, out there that will pull all your installation codes, but that's when you already have the program installed.  Too late in this case.

Hi Dora,
There are different keys for every computer so we can't help there. Micrsosoft doesn't keep those records as far as I can remember so they can't do much either, you would need the key to get anything useful out of them. However if you bought it from a store they may have kept a record of all the software keys. Otherwise you could take it to a professional, there are commercial-grade programs that can extract keys from computers without the program being installed. Another option could be to use Openoffice. It's a free program that you can get from the net that can be made to save files in the same format as the Microsoft version. https://www.openoffice.org/

I was also going to suggest open office.

Is this one of the newer versions that needs activation?  You could probably google a key as there is probably a set of them that will work on your install disk.

Assuming you mean the Microsoft version it does have an activation key. Without it you get 30 uses of the program and then it locks you out. The activation keys also change with the disk as far as I know, not entirely certain though.

I mean the activation where you have to contact MS with your product key and they will approve activation on your computer.  With these softwares the key alone does not activate the product.

Like the others say: product keys are all different.

It's to prevent copyright, piracy, etc. So all serial codes for Microsoft products, games, etc. are all different and usually once they are registered...Microsoft will not accept the same code ever again.

It's their way of protecting themselves and getting as much money out of you as possible.

Not really. Only if you establish some kind of online connection with microsoft, like when registering. Nobody will ever find or check anything, i know from my current winxp installation.
Frankly, i would just use google & search for some other serial.
Alternatively, just use open office as suggested.

They will accept it but only if you can prove the key is yours. I have had to ring Microsoft to have my Windows key unregistered because of a problem and it can be done but only if you can prove the key is yours. Unfortunately dora, you don't have the information they need so will have to find another way around.

Hey if you are up Microsoft creek with out a paddle try Linux.  Mandriva is a free user friendly version of Linux.  It also comes with an office package which includes spread sheets, pdf reader, and a word program which is all compatible with Microsoft files.  Best part is before installing it you can try running it right off your cd-rom.  This would keep you up and running while trying to figure out your problem with windows.  Heck you may not ever want to go back.  I know I don't.  I just keep Windows around in-case I run into a web-page which requires it. Oh and no keys every to deal with again.
I am no longer fighting my inner demons.  We are now all on the same side.

Linux would be great to use, except maybe a little less taxing version...Ubuntu? Only thing is that without some complicated work you can't run most windows programs on Linux.
