It's been happening to me ever since the forum was updated. I don't really know what it is though, sorry. :)

It is most likely because you clicked the "Remember Me" box when you first logged in. Then when you left, you logged out, so now when you go to log in, the computer automatically remembers you and signs you in so you don't have to.

Could also be to do with your browser if you still have to click login then it shouldn't be the 'Remember Me'. Your browser might have automatically remembered the details so it fills it in for you.

I think what they're asking is WHY they have to click "log in" at all. Instead of just clicking "Remember Me" and not having to click "log in" ever again.

I think...LOL

This issue has been raised before.  I don't think anything has changed though.

I think what they're asking is WHY they have to click "log in" at all. Instead of just clicking "Remember Me" and not having to click "log in" ever again.

I believe that is the subject.

Could be to do with your browser again, if it's set to purge all cookies etc when you exit then you would have to enter the details when you open it back up...

I have the same problem.  PS is set to remember me when I visit the site.  Cookies are on.  After I close my browser and visit the site again it appears I have logged out.  After I click the login button, it logs me in automatically without asking for a password.  I find that troublesome, and a bit deceptive security wise.

I'd also like it to remember my login, like how it used to be.

The login functionality was slightly changed when we upgraded the forum several month ago. Please read more here:

https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,31002.msg360531.html#msg360531

The current setup works pretty well for most users but for very frequent forumers I understand it could possibly be an affliction to need to click the login button every time you go straight to the forum.
You could then bookmark this page instead of the forum and always start there:

Is this issue still on-going since 2009? I'm experiencing it at the moment.

The first link you mentioned doesn't work for me, and bookmarking the PS start page still requires one to click "Forum" to get there rather than bookmarking the forum and automatically having me be logged in.

For me, going to https://www.pianostreet.com works.  However going to https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php does require clicking login.

I can hardly type because I'm laughing so hard.

It's like a discussion within a group of blindfolded people while they all feel up an elephant from different sides.

Everyone sees a different internet, even those visiting the same site. The functionality of your browser and operating platform change what you see and are able to do.

That's exactly what I've been thinking about another forum.  People get into very heated arguments there.  It worked for them... so that's how it works for everyone.  It's another music forum but one with more teachers who are used to be the unquestioned, revered authority.  Get a bunch of them together on certain hot topics.... watch out.  Funny enough -- They end up resorting back to personal attacks and name calling like other places on the internet.  Educated professionals.  I've found it's a useful way to think about things -- both right and wrong at the same time.
