Frank Bridge - The Dew Fairy
on: January 08, 2009, 12:21:20 AM
Frank Bridge's piano music doesn't get played very often, but is really beautiful and fun to play. This one is called the Dew Fairy from the collection of three pieces called "The Hour Glass". Again apologies for the video/audio quality - it was a cheap webcam

Hi bertrand,
Frank Bridge's late romantic music is very appealing indeed. In playing it you display a wonderful dexterity, especially where you play it at proper tempo. This is a very nice rendition.
If you need any suggestions, I'd offer two. First, there were a few times when I felt that your playing momentarily lost evenness of touch. So that's basically a matter of intensive practicing. Also, the piece does have a range of dynamics, but your playing seems to be at a uniform level of volume throughout; however, it might not be you, but rather attributable to the webcam setup.
You sure had to play with a lot of distractions there!
Ideally, if you could wait for opportunities to record when you have the house to yourself, you could produce better recordings without all the chatter and kitchen noises. I have a similar problem, so wait for my wife to go out to do errands, then do some serious recording.
Thanks for sharing this piece by Bridge with us. It's always a pleasure to hear lesser known or neglected works. Nice job.

Thanks for your comments Rachfan, I agree with you about the evenness and dynamics - that is something I need to work on. I have one or two other Frank Bridge pieces in my repertoire and will try and post them up here soon.
