I am stupid
on: January 09, 2009, 05:04:59 AM
You see this is how I spend my Christmas vacation.

I plan to compose for orchestra.....
And made a title called Tsubasa.

At the first glance then, I taught of instruments....
Then , I came up with the Idea that I will use a piano, A flute, two violin ,a cello , A french horn ,  A clarinet , A drum..........

Then I used the MIDI... It sounded we'll .....

So I went to a certain place called Yupanco building Which is just 2 kilometers from my house.....

THen In the middle of my walk... Some kids playing with some triangles , Picollo and some Luces made a stupid trick and my tender hands ....!....

THen good thing that I make an orchestration. So good thing they helped me for free..

THen When they played it.. It sounded absurd and it was very wrong....

Playing Piano is the easiest thing in the world, All you have to do is have the right finger on the right key at the right moment.

Let me make a restatement..... Of my unlucky new Year!
So that you may understand.

THe orchestra actually happened in my house and not in Yutchenko Building.
And the people who performmed my orchestra was my neighbors who had a violin, not the staff.

I was walking when I saw Children walking in the street and they were bringing some picollo's and triangles for them to light and blow up....
THere was that BANG and my hand had a very slight injury!(But very concerning to a pianist)   I did not even see a foctor after that injury.

But there is now a problem.   I played my Orchestra in MIDI and it was fine and the instrument blends well to each other.

But the real orchestra performance sucked badly.
First of all, THe tunes of the musical instruments do not blend nor agree with each other (But the MIDI).

But When we try to play one instrument at a time. (THere is nothing wrong with the instruments).   My neighbors said that something is really really wrong!

I do not know.

LOL!

and i just finished my 7th symphony yesterday...

give me a break.... ::)

OK! This is very unlucky for me.

Haha, to go out on New Year's is indeed stupid.  :D

Other than that, I don't see why you bring yourself down. Why it's like that, I have no idea... in fact I prefer the sound of real instruments to MIDI, even if it sounds weird. Have never heard of it going the other way around.  :o Please check your harmonies. Maybe you don't hear the errors on the MIDI for some reason but it appears on real instruments. Check the score. If there's nothing wrong with the score, maybe change up the orchestration.

You'll have to make a very light and carefree melody to live up to that name I think.

Well, good luck anyway.

Can you get them to play it again, but this time record it? Then compare the recording to your midi .. see what's not working out

Maybe they're poor performers?

You used some kind of notation program to create it and then played it back through MIDI?  Did you transpose the parts for the instrument parts?

Ah, you to? I also composed for an orchestra... But ofc I didn't use Midi, I kind of imporvised the piece on my way to the concert hall (Carneigie hall, something.. I don't really remember. I've been to so many halls, I even can't remember their name! Buhuhu, I am so stupid!), which lays 5 minutes away from where I live. I made a 5 movement symphony, with a fugue-ish like movement and the second, built on the hardest theme ever composed. I think I did ok, but everyone else said I will be a new, improved Mozart, even though it was my worst piece.

And when they we were done rehearsing, they told me to play something on the piano in the back of the hall, and I improvised a fugue with 6 voices.

I composed my first symphony at the age of 2½. But it wasn't very good. Only 4 movement, and not very deep :(
Since then I've composed 5000 symponies, 4928 sonatas for each instrument, 2 billion virituoso exercises for each instrument 20093 fugues with 11 voices and some random concertos and variation-pieces.

Hmm...I admire you people!
I struggle to right a 2 minute A level composition, let alone Symphonies and so on. I heard of a kid in the states who wrote a symphony at the age of 12 :O...crazy!
Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 3...Monumental!

I've written a fair bit for orchestras of various sizes and quality, I can think of three immediate problems that could occur:

1) Parts were not written in the correct keys (most common amateur mistake)

2) Unsympathetic writing (another amateur mistake)

3) Lack of a conductor?

If you're writing for amateurs, which you were, you need to be VERY careful with what you do, and the conductor needs to be exact and obvious.

I know the root of all problem.

My performers are untimingly synchronized. the hornist said that my tempo is so fast.  And the timing of the instruments are wrong.

I know I myself is an amateur composer.

I believe that I am not that good in choosing instruments.
So do you.

Which one should be he melody and which one should be the harmony?

You can give a melody to whatever you please. There is so much more to it than that. Think of the SOUNDS you can get by pairing different instruments together.

If the performers were unsynchronized, then that it the fault of the conductor, unless they're extremely basic, or the composer made a mistake with the grouping of the notes.

You could do like Hugo Alfvén and take all muscians out for a drink, show them their specific parts and ask if they have any objections.

I think that making is a mistake is the perfect way to learn. The only thing is that if we make  a mistake and we don't pay attention at what happened and how to avoid this in the future, then it doesn't worth. I'm pretty sure you won't have again the same problem. Most probably, you'll find some other problems, but not this one...

Keep working ;)
