Great student quote of the day..
on: January 12, 2009, 06:27:54 AM
I was teaching a nine year old girl and talking to her about how to shape a phrase, starting quiet, growing, and then tailing off at the end.  She very quickly said "Oh, it's like putting a magnifying glass on the middle of it!".  What a great way of seeing it, and she is so right!  I've repeated that to every student since then  and they all know, immediately what she means.

dear pizno:
children always come with unusual stuff. it's wonderful to understand how they see the world without our ready-made conceptions.
best!

A girl who works on a Bartók piece: "You know, I think this Composer went to a Bar in Tokyo, got drunk, and composed this piece and that's why he wrote such weird sounding chords in it"  ;D

Another one from a guy who is quite a bit difficult to teach: "Don't blame me for being like this. I have ADHD, blame god for it"  :P

I taught a  6 year old student  during her lesson, she said,
"like ten little hammers"  referring to her fingers when I explained a little about striking the keys.  :)
