Your favorite collaborative work ?
on: January 17, 2009, 02:49:08 AM
I am recently becoming interested in collaborative work with other musicians and have been thinking about the possibility of doing more collaborative work in the future.  I am curious, what is your favorite kind ?  Do you have a particular instrument that you enjoy working with most ?  A particular person or type of person ?

As a pianist, I have worked a little bit with other people, but most of my collaborative work has been as a singer.

dear karli:
i really love chamber music, and had the opportunity to do that a lot, with many different musicians and formations. at the piano, some beloved works are:
- brahms - four serious songs and the second viola/clarinet sonata (this one is particularly hard, by the way);
- mozart - the e minor violin sonata;
- schubert - arpeggione sonata;
- debussy - many songs and the sonatas;
- stravinsky - the arrangement of l'histoire du soldat;
- schoenberg - pierrot lunaire;
- terry riley - in c;
- reich - piano phase, eight lines.

well, just some works at the top of my head.

best!

I really love Shubert's lieds: They are pure beauty. I like working with singers in general.
I've also started enjoying the cello, and most string instrument.

But piano for more than 2 hands are also always very fun...

I accually like like all kinds of music, even though the trumpet hasn't cought me yet.
But I am only 19 yo, so I guess that will come :)

How about a good friend or family member who is also very good?  Or maybe we speak of ideal worlds...

I love chamber music! Only on viola though - I'm scared to touch the piano when other musicians might hear  :-[ The only truly negative experience I've had was when being accompanied by my piano teacher for a string competition. Her presence made me about 40 times more nervous, and it was horrible... *shivers*.  So I guess I enjoy collaborating with musicians I regard as equals, to create the most constructive learning environment for all. I have to be comfortable with the people, and not afraid to make mistakes or ask questions.
It all happens on Discworld, where greed and ignorance influence human behavior... and perfectly ordinary people occasionally act like raving idiots.

A world, in short, totally unlike our own.

Oh, yes:  Schubert's Fantasy in F minor.  Obtain the right two pairs of hands, and magic will be served.
