What makes practicing worthwhile?

Practicing worthwhile for me would be that my mind is in sync with the music.  That my mind read the notes readily and keeping tempo.  Of course, there are days I am so tired mentally and physically, yet  I still practice but need to go at it slowly.  When I'm up and going, I play fast on everything.  The music comes alive and easier to learn.  My best moments of practicing is when I don't have a lot of stress going on in my life.  I can sit and enjoy the moment of running my fingers over the keyboard.  When there is a lot of clutter in my mind, the music just does't seem to work.  It's a moment between me and my piano and how the music flows while I practice.   :)

I agree with you, when Iam really tired and stressed it's always hard to be connect with music. But I always try to find some way how to be connect. So I  play my favourite pieces before I  start to practise and then Iam able to concentrate on my rest pieces and give energy and pleasure in.
And really my memorizing is then much better  :)
The best moment is when my head thinks only about music and not about anything else..., I have good mood from my playing and I am able to play for hours. :)

Well, if you want to know what makes practicing worthwhile, it is simply making music (and being capable of doing that in different contexts) that does it for me.  In a sense though, practise as a practice makes practise and the practice of practise worthwhile  :D.  It can build on itself.  If you are asking how to make practising actually be a musical experience, that's a different question maybe :).
