Help! Need dance or Ballet music!
on: January 23, 2009, 09:02:10 PM
Hi,
I just enrolled into a piano repertoire class, and the theme for this quarter is dance or ballet music - and I have to choose 2 (Both cannot be from the same era). Was thinking about a Waltz or Mazurka from Chopin.

As I am not too familiar with pieces, please make some reccomendations!! - there is a time limit of 6 minutes for each piece!

Please help me with choosing! Much appreciated!! :D ;)

what about the 3 fantastic dances by Shostakovich? or the Brahms Waltzes or Hungarian dances or Dvorak Slavonic dances arranged for solo piano?

This is the sort of thing I would go for as I bet everyone is thinking of Chopin

and there are literally tons of Operatic transcriptions out there by Liszt, Thalberg

I don't know if they would Class Schönbergs suite for piano OP. 25 dance I suppose it is inspired by dance but i think they would be rather tricky to dance to and they all have dance names

Thanks for the reply!!! I'll check out the Shostakovich dances and your other reccomendations! (Your right that alot of people are thinking Chopin pieces) I made a slight mistake saying operatic pieces, but its actually dance or ballet inspired!
