Manners in the chat room
on: January 28, 2009, 03:33:32 AM
Since I've joined, a week ago, is it common when someone enters into the chat room and then suddenly someone leaves?  Also, it's interesting that when I say Hi and how's your day, just starting a conversation, I find it interesting that someone in the chat room would not respond.  It's hard to carry a one sided conversation.  I wonder if this is usual behavior in the chat room.  It's okay to be ignored and it's not my problem.  But as a common curtesy, it nice to be acknowledged and just chat even say hi and get somewhat acquainted. I've met a lot of students and musicians from all over the world.

If they leave instantly it's not them, its some kind of error that makes the message say someone's in the room when they've actually left a while ago.
The one-sidedness is the other people's problem though, you are welcome here.

Yes, I thought that would be the case when I enter the chat room and I chat and no one responds.  Also, another thing.  There are times I get cut off completely depending upon my wireless server.  So if I suddenly leave without notice or a goodbye, it's the internet.  And I don't mean to be rude while chatting with somone.  I think at times the wireless server can't handle all the folks being on line! The other day I couldn't even get into the chat room.  So, thanks morningstar, for clarifying the "non-response" situation.  I am enjoying myself in the forum.  = )

My feeble connection often chucks me out before i have a chance to say Hi.

I think this must be often the case.

Just like me, I usually have a flawless connection, but the Chat just randomly crashes on me. :(

This place does seem to have a few unusual people here, from seeing things in the Chat and reading the forums. At least no one can contradict you and say you are ignorant, because you don't appear to be. :)

I agree with your last sentence though:

I am enjoying myself in the forum.  = )

Now, I have another interesting situation.....there will be one user in the chat room.  So I enter and say my hi and no response at all. Then I say hello again and still no response.  What's up with that?  I don't want to talk to myself, really.
A puzzling encounters for sure......hummmmm

They're possibly away from the computer, have their sound turned off, or they just aren't hearing it. The little notification noise it makes isn't that loud and if sound is turned off then it's easy to forget that chat is there (sorry guys!)

The chat program is garbage, it works for some and randomly crashes/freezes/disconnects others. Don't worry if it seems like people are ignoring you, it's probably their chat acting up again. It was supposed to be fixed at some point, but you know how that goes  ::)
IMO, it would be better if we got an IRC channel and used that instead.
