hand weakness
on: February 12, 2009, 10:40:33 PM
Lately my hands have been very tired and with all my effort I can only produce at maximum effort a fortissimo sound. What do you suggest? Should I take a break from the piano or should should I just play through it? I'm very confused.

thank you

Perhaps the weakness of the hands could be caused from being tired physically and practicing too much.  It's hard to determine what the circumstances are that is causing weak hands from your posts.  I have never heard of this until now in the forum.  Try out some weight lifting each day with 3 lb bumb bells for the biceps, triceps, deltriods and back. Another exercise:  on the keyboard, push all the keys down with good curved fingers for a few seconds and then release; repeat a few times before you practice. This will strengthen fingers.  Try some double 3rds trills slowly and then increase speed.  Hope this will help.   :)   go12_3

I am noticing this lately in my playing, but I realize that it takes very little physical effort to play the piano, and loudness is matter of control and corrdinaiton, and not so much strength.

If you are studying with a teacher, its probably good idea to figure out whats going on with your playing, maybe there is something about your playing that is inefficient.

i think it's better for you to take a break... try to relax and distribute energy to your fingers while playing...
Hope someday I'll be a good pianist ^.^
