Favorite orchestral works?
on: February 17, 2009, 01:08:22 PM
I've suddenly been feeling guilty that I have very little knowledge of orchestral music (basically limited to what I've played). What are some orchestral pieces that you enjoy?

It all happens on Discworld, where greed and ignorance influence human behavior... and perfectly ordinary people occasionally act like raving idiots.
A world, in short, totally unlike our own.

Hmm, well I guess I should be the first to say Beethoven's 9th
Vaughn Williams - Symphony No.5 and The Lark Ascending
Grieg - Peer Gynt suite
Holst - The Planets Suite
Dvorak - Symphony No.9
Schubert - Symphony No.8, No.9
Beethoven - 9th Symphony
Saint Saens - Danse Macabre
To name a few (pretty obvious ones).

I hadn't heard much orchestral work until late last year, when I managed to get into an orchestra.
Borodin - Polovtsienne dances
Kodaly - Hary-Janos suite
and of course the Nutcracker suite!!!
