Yes, I see it also. Perhaps a structural engineer can provide an explanation. :D

Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.

OK, now I'm confused. What I see has nothing to do with spelling.

Oh, my, then what do you see then?  The spelling of barcarolle has two ll's on the cover, and the correct spelling of  barcarole is with one L.

Nope, Barcarolle is spelled correctly. My guess is that it has something to do with the pianist herself.

Really?   Interesting....indeed about the cover.  The mystery intrigues me.

I thought that's what you my have been thinking. I checked several editions of this piece and found both spellings.

Now you're onto something...

OK, I'll give another hint. In art there is a term called the 'vanishing point' that parallel lines will appear to converge to a point in the distance.

If the artist does not obey this rule, the painting or drawing (assuming it to be real life and not abstract) will look odd.

Although this is a photograph, one would expect to see this effect to some extent.

Of course, I have made some assumptions here as well.

I can't stand it any longer, am I the only person who sees the obvious? :o

Or maybe the only one who thinks like this. :P

OK, here is my explanation of what I noticed. :D

As you can see, the parallel lines are converging in the opposite direction to what one would expect. ;)

Did it ever occur to you that she is just shrugging her shoulders or twisted just a bit. Her dress is dropped down on one shoulder hightening the effect. I don't think this has anything to do with persective or structural engineering. The human body isn't symetrical anyway, and maybe you have been staring at a particular section of her anatomy a bit to long hehe.

Maybe my judgment's a bit lopsided  :P, but this might be a good example of why performers should wear certain formal, plain types of clothing.

(Bob wonders if Chopin's Ballade No. 4 is slightly larger than Ballade No. 3... but it's all a matter of perspective. ::))

I have a hunch... Or maybe *I* don't have a hunch and someone else has a hunch.... But you know some thought went into choosing that picture.  Why not a pic at the piano?  Or just the face, if that's important?  Just the hands?  Musical score?  Flowers on the piano?  Someone had to decide what to include in the pic.

he he he this is just the reason I didn't comment on the picture! the more you look for mistakes the more you seem to see even though there may be none.

Wheres Sherlock Holmes when you need him? :P

nah, the composition of the image looks fine to me, think you may be over complicating things by talking about vanishing points.

What does the original poster of this topic think? put us out of our misery!

May have something to do with the camera lens.  As I recall, certain types of lenses will make near objects larger in proportion than the rest of the image.  Perhaps someone could explain this in the correct terminology.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Maybe they did it on purpose? Make it a bit weird, maybe someone will get curious?

pianowolfi,

Thanks for posting this video. This is one of my favourite Chopin Nocturnes and she does a beautiful job on it.
