Suggestions for Good Friday
on: February 27, 2009, 09:09:21 PM
I am in need of some suggestions.  Every year I play a prelude at my church for Good Friday.  I would like some help with some suggestions on what to play this year.  I like to play dark, intense, minor songs on Good Friday. Being that Good Friday is approaching quick, I think I am not going to be able to tackle a level 8 piece with so little time remaining.  I am sitting here racking my brain and nothing is popping up.  What do you all think?  I would really appreciate any help.
Ricky ;)

Improvisation on Dies Irae  8)

Maybe a transcription of one of the many Stabat Mater's out there.

I usually dont' do any instrumental music on Good Friday. On Easter I would do something with Victimae paschali laudes.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Sarabande from Bach's French Suite No1. Or if you can learn it, BWV 974 2nd mvt.
Both can be heard on youtube played by Gould.

How about one of the Bach-Busoni chorale preludes (specifically Ich Ruf zu Dir or Nun Komm, der Heiden Heiland)?  Neither of them are too difficult, and they seem to fit both the dark intensity you want and the church setting (though the text of the latter is more suited to Advent than Lent).
