Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini Var II, fingering
on: March 05, 2009, 10:58:55 PM
Hey guys, i have a quick question. i was just wondering, in the second..sort of, variation, in Variation II of the rhapsody, the part that starts with a high A. I was wondering which fingering do you use for those first 2 measures, im sure the rest i can fi(n)gure out on my own once i get those first two down. And also, whether you play the G# with the left hand, or the right hand, cuz in my edition for some reason the G# is in the lower cleft

Thanks
Aslan

i just developed my fingering, i think is effective because it minimizes interference from the left hand.

5321 4321 3124 5421

does that seem like a logical way of playing it? it feels comfortable and allows for practicing with the right hand without having the intermittent G# left hand.

Don't think we're talking about Brahms!

Well Rachmaninoff AND BRAHMS both wrote a set of variations on a theme by Paganini... as well as one of Liszt's etudes based on Paganini's variations...

And since the author didn't specify a composer... I had to guess. What am I psychic???

Maybe the word "Rhapsody" should have tipped you off?

Oh well - probably just presumed it was Brahms since I'm learning his variations on the paganini theme...

I probably didn't have enough caffeine in me at the time.
