Note Editor?

Since Finale demo version isn't free anymore, is there anything else out there? Just for simple notation and printing.

I found something on download.com called Music Score Editor but it has the ugliest interface I've ever seen. Anything else?

I use Noteworthy Composer.  It's more intuitive than Finale Notepad and does a few things Finale can't, like change keys in the middle of a piece.  Though it has its quirks as well.

I paid for the shareware version but the demo version is probably fine for most use.  You have a limitation on number of saves but there's an easy way to beat that if you need to.

The previous version of Finale Notepad was free.  You don't need to run the latest one  ;)  Search around for it.

Haven't tried out the new version.  What I hear is the pay version for $10 or so has some increased features set that you would find on the more expensive variants of the software.

If you want to read 2009 files just download the free reader.  I'm guessing you could have multiple installations and have an older version of Notepad to create your music.
