Chopin's Nocturnes are worth exploring. Listen to them all & decide which of their moods you empathise with.
Kissin has recorded a few & very powerful they are.
Maria Pires has recorded the complete nocturnes which are the ones I know
Also listen to Schumanns' Fantasy op.17 especially the final mvt.

try looking at the Mendelssohn songs without words, Grieg lyrical pieces, Bach-Busoni chorale preludes and Schubert/Liszt songs.

Exactly what sort of cheese would you compare Chopin's nocturnes to? It's obvious you know a lot more about cheese than you do about Chopin Nocturnes (and I know a bit about both and still can't find the connection).

The first of Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words (Op19 No 1) might appeal. It has a beautiful song like melody over a broken chord accompaniment.

Also Schubert G flat Impromptu.

If you're talking about the whole Moonlight Sonata rather than just the first movement, how about its "companion" sonata in E flat Op 27 No 1.
