About Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromtu
on: March 31, 2009, 03:30:59 AM
Hello:
Today I got my Chopin's Fantaisie-Impromtu score in the mail.  It is edited by Maurice Hinson.  Now, there are two kinds of editions:
one is the score that was composed and the second one is the Fontana Edition.
I need some expect advice from the pianists in the forum.  Which is the better edition?  Or does it make any differece? And which one do you prefer?  I was just wondering.  The editor mentioned that the Fontana version is more logical and many pianists prefer the Fontana version.

thank you,

In life, it is pointless to polish a turd, so i submit it does not matter what edition you have. A horrible piece of music will remain thus irrespective of the edition.

I have not seen either edition, but i suspect Fontana would be preferable as he had first hand knowledge of Chopin's playing.

That is not to diminish the work of Mr Hinson, who's "work for piano & orchestra" is as close to a Bible as i will ever need.

Hope you enjoy playing this work.
